SUN-LITE� PASSIVE SOLAR WATER HEATER KIT

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Sun-Lite� passive domestic hot water preheating unit consists of two 30 gallon tanks in a double glazed box. It is designed to be mounted in a tilted position facing south and connected to existing plumbing.

ORIENTATION
The unit should be installed with the tanks facing true south (not magnetic south) and tilted so that the back of the unit makes an angle with the horizontal approximately equal to the local latitude plus 15 degrees. Tilt angles greater than that will give greater heat gains in the winter when compared to summer gains. Smaller tilt angles will reduce the comparative winter gain. The tanks may be faced within 30� of true south, and local conditions' such as morning or afternoon cloudiness may actually make it desirable to face the tanks slightly west or east of true south. In choosing the location for the unit, the owner builder should be mindful of the fact that a filled unit weighs approximately 700 pounds.

PERFORMANCE
This passive hot water heater can save in excess of 6 million BTU's annually when properly sited and installed in most geographic regions in the United States.

HOOKUP
One possible connection configuration is shown; however, individual situations vary greatly, and the owner-builder should take care to design for their situation and all applicable codes.
The water heater can be ground, sidewall, or roof mounted to maximize performance. Mounting system will vary with application and orientation.
